June 2008 Project Update

The design-build team is continuing work on a temporary platform that will allow bridge construction to occur while maintaining traffic on SR 46. A temporary trestle will be built to provide construction access along the channel and to minimize environmental impacts. Work has also begun on the permanent bridge foundations. Public access to SR 46 and boat ramps will continue as these activities are completed and throughout construction of the new bridge.

Minimizing environmental impacts during construction is a major concern of the design-build team. The pictures displayed above show two (2) pond sites that have been created on site. These ponds have been created to filter stormwater run-off before it is discharged off-site, and are located on both the eastern and western bridge approaches. Figure A shows an aerial view of the bridge, and the location of one of the pond sites can be seen at the top left corner of the picture. Figure B and Figure C provide a more detailed view of both ponds.
