December 2009/January 2010 Project Update
Travelers have been enjoying the new SR 46 Bridge over Lake Jesup since August 1, 2009. The old bridge and causeway have been removed completely and wetland restoration is nearing completion. Final construction items such as grassing, final striping and clean-up will continue for several months but will have little impact on travel.
There are no further construction activities planned to take place in the main channel. Recreational boaters can enjoy free travel under the new bridge and the newly restored wetland areas.
Motorists should continue to remain alert for lane shifts or closures, and should use extreme caution when driving through construction areas. Motorists are also advised to be on the lookout for construction equipment entering and leaving the highway.
We are also pleased to announce that the new Lake Jesup Bridge was recently featured in Road and Bridges Magazine’s Top Bridges of 2009. A listing of the award for Lake Jesup Bridge may be found here.
