As this project progresses, monthly project status updates will be posted here. Previous monthly updates will also remain available on the project website, and may be found at the bottom of this page. Please check back regularly for project status updates.
April 2009 Project Update
Construction on the bridge continues to move forward. The construction of pile foundation supports for the bridge is continuing at a rapid pace and should be completed in the near future. Setting of the support beams will immediately follow. The final riding surface is being constructed in sections as the support beams are put in place, and is now over halfway complete.
As these efforts progress, increased construction adjacent to the existing bridge and in the waterway can be expected. For safety reasons, there will be short time periods when the channel will be closed to marine traffic. The channel continues to remain open during weekends.
Figure A below shows recent bridge construction activities. Figure B provides an aerial view of the existing and new bridge.
