August 2009 Project Update

The new SR46 Bridge over Lake Jesup was opened to the traveling public on August 1, 2009. The old causeway and bridge is still being used as a detour route for the Cameron Wight boat ramp/Old Geneva Road. Travelers are advised to follow detour signs. Once the final connection for access to the Cameron Wight boat ramp/Old Geneva Road is made to the new SR 46 roadway, the demolition of the old causeway and bridge will begin. The new access location for Osceola Road was constructed over the weekend of August 1-3, 2009 and was opened on August 3, 2009. As work continues in this area, travelers are advised to remain cautious and can expect periodic flagging through the construction area.

Construction activities adjacent to the new bridge and water way will continue. For safety reasons, there will be short periods of time when the channel will be closed to marine traffic. The channel will remain open on the weekends.

Motorists should remain alert for lane shifts or closures and should use extreme caution when driving through construction areas. Motorists are also advised to be on the lookout for construction equipment entering and leaving the highway.
