February 2009 Project Update

Construction on the bridge continues to move forward. Pile foundation supports for the bridge continue to be constructed and the concrete bridge decks for the final bridge surface are being placed. In addition, the design-build team continues to place support beams.

The temporary construction bridge is located adjacent to the existing SR 46 Lake Jesup Bridge to provide construction access along the channel and to minimize environmental impacts. For safety reasons, there will be short time periods when the channel will be closed to marine traffic. The channel will remain open during weekends.

Figure A shows the construction of the steel bridge deck. Construction of the pile foundations in the channel is underway, as shown in Figure B. Yellow safety barriers are being placed around the work area as these pile foundations are constructed to establish a secure perimeter and allow safe boating access during construction in the channel. For safety reasons, boaters are strongly cautioned to observe this perimeter and remain outside of the work area barriers.
