October 2009 Project Update
The new SR 46 Bridge over Lake Jesup has been opened to travelers since August 1, 2009 and the asphalt roadway approaching the bridge is in its final configuration. The old bridge and causeway is no longer accessible to the public and removal continues. Construction will continue for several more months to complete the remaining new construction and to complete the removal of the old causeway for wetland restoration.
Construction activities adjacent to the new bridge and waterway will continue. For safety reasons, there will be short periods of time when the channel will be closed to marine traffic. The channel will remain open on the weekends.
Motorists should remain alert for lane shifts or closures and should use extreme caution when driving through construction areas. Motorists are also advised to be on the lookout for construction equipment entering and leaving the highway.
